Acura Confirms Adventure-Ready SUV for Early 2028: Name and Specs TBD

Acura told dealers an adventure-ready SUV lands in early 2028, with a hybrid V6 and its biggest SUV ever on the roadmap. The catch: the first one has no name, specs or price yet.

Acura just promised an adventure-ready SUV and then politely declined to tell us anything about it. No name, no specs, no price. Just a season-ish on the calendar: the first part of 2028.

What Acura told its dealers

According to American Honda, Acura shared a North American roadmap with its U.S. dealers that includes three new SUVs over the coming years. The stated goals are long-term customer loyalty and bringing in new buyers, and the plan pushes the brand into segments where it doesn't compete today.

The adventure-ready model goes first. Acura says it will pair the capability buyers need for outdoor trips with premium styling, comfort and technology. That's the whole description. Whether "capability" means gravel-road confidence or something rowdier is a question the release leaves hanging.

The rest of the lineup

Here's what else is on the list:

  • Fourth-generation RDX Hybrid: Already announced, due in 2028. Acura says it will be the first of its vehicles to use the company's two-motor hybrid system.
  • An 8-passenger SUV: In development and billed as Acura's largest ever. It will sit above the 7-passenger MDX.
  • A new V6 hybrid powertrain: In development for what Acura calls D-Segment models. The company promises sporty performance, better towing capability and improved efficiency.
  • 2027 model year updates: The ADX, MDX and Integra all get enhancements. The release doesn't say what they are.

Why the V6 hybrid might matter to you

If you tow a camper, a trailer or a rig with a few too many stickers on it, the towing line is the one to circle. Acura says the new V6 hybrid will improve towing capability. It gives no numbers, so treat it as a direction of travel rather than a rating. Still, a brand talking about an adventure SUV and better towing in the same announcement is worth noticing.

The 8-passenger SUV is the other curiosity. Eight seats is a lot of seats. Whether it has any interest in dirt is unknown, since the release only talks about size and its place above the MDX.

What we don't know

Plenty. The release gives no name, powertrain, dimensions, ground clearance, drivetrain details or pricing for the adventure model. We also don't know how it relates to the new V6 hybrid or the RDX Hybrid, if at all. The one firm date is the first part of 2028, and that's the timing Acura gave dealers.

The takeaway

If you've been waiting for Acura to show up at the trailhead, now you have a rough arrival time. Keep your expectations flexible, though. Until Acura shows a vehicle with real specs, this is a roadmap slide with a pine tree on it. Mark early 2028 on the calendar, keep your current rig's tires aired down, and check back when someone finally gives the thing a name.
