An interview with Darryl Miya at Scosche Industries.
What is your background?
Scotia and Roger Alves founded Scosche Industries in 1980 as an automotive audio consultancy, while also designing installation accessories for installers and consumers. With the award of their first, of many, patents for their General Motors multi-purpose dash kit, Scosche was responsible for creating the DIY car audio business for retail.

After successfully breaking into the highly competitive consumer technology accessories industry, now, 40 years later, Scosche has a catalog of more than 3,000 products. Three generations of the Alves family work at the company’s headquarters in Oxnard, CA. Their sons Kas and Vince joined Scosche in 1995 and 2000, respectively, and their grandson Ryder joined the family business in 2018. With around 200 employees, Scosche Industries still has the culture and feel of being a family.
What year did you open your company?
As mentioned above, Scosche was formed in1980, which means we are proudly celebrating our 40th Anniversary this year!
What drove you to be a part of the Overland and/or Van Life community?
Scosche was born and raised in Southern California so an adventurous outdoor lifestyle is part of our DNA. In addition to using our products in our own show vehicles and our Ambassadors’ on and off-road vehicles, many Scosche employees and executives enjoy overlanding on their weekends and vacations.
What are the reasons you started producing/selling the products you do?
We believe that the right accessories can make your life (and drive) safer, simpler, more efficient and more enjoyable.
What do your customers enjoy most about your products?
Our customers tell us that they appreciate the consistently high quality, innovative design and smart use of cutting-edge technologies. They keep coming back because the Scosche name is synonymous with durability, value, and a satisfying user experience.
Where is the majority of your customer base located? (If you want to share)
You’ll find Scosche products available globally, both online and through select international, national and regional dealers and retailers. Our product line includes home and vehicle mounts and wireless chargers, powersports mounts, smart dash cams, home and vehicle chargers, charge and sync cables, power inverters, portable power jumpers and much more. As part of the consumer technology and automotive technology industries, we are typically available in the same places that people buy their phones, tablets, cameras, etc.
Where do you see your company going in the next few years or so?
Anywhere there is a mobile phone, car, bike, motorcycle, ATV, boat, RV, home or office. Our product development is driven by innovations and changes in the consumer technology and automotive industries. So whatever they design, we provide the accessories to make it even better.
